I am currently living as a resident in a solar-powered house, as of a month ago - I had sublet here last year in July. It's a sustainable eco-village that I consider "part of the solution" in that it is practicing sustainability (alternative energy, growing their own food, etc.), spirituality, conscious community, and it's educating people on a more sustainable way of living. Since its' founding in 1978, inspired by Findhorn, tens of thousands of visitors have come through to experience this template eco-village, which has endured the tests of time. For those who are interested, it is a destination spot of sorts. There is a quite impressive stone circle is in the tradition of power spots like Stone Henge. The Community center is a sight to see as well. it took them 10 years to construct - and is a model of elegant sustainable construction, with a large wrap-around greenhouse attached with indoor seating for lunches. The greenhouse also provides passive solar heating during the winter...If you're in the area, I recommend visiting.
